Different points of view are the spice of life, right? Our world would be so boring if we all thought the same way. But let’s be honest—it can be a little tricky when your thoughts are totally different from those around you.
Take my hubby, for example. I like things neat and tidy—clear counters, a made bed, and everything put back where it belongs. He, on the other hand, seems to thrive in clutter. His desk is a mountain range of papers, the garage looks like a storm rolled through, and his clothes live in friendly piles. I keep reminding myself that a healthy marriage means accepting the quirks that drive you nuts—because that’s just who the other person is.
Then there’s me and my dog, ZZ. On our early morning walks, I love hearing the owls hooting back and forth. To me, it’s magical. To ZZ, it’s a full-blown emergency. He’s convinced that mysterious racket means we’re about to be murdered—unless, of course, he saves the day by barking his head off, chasing invisible enemies, and waking the whole neighborhood before he turns tail and trots back to the safety of home as fast as his furry feet can go, with me trying to keep up! Different perspectives, same owls.
I’m also an “early to bed, early to rise” kind of gal. I love my 8 hours of sleep—from 9 PM to 5 AM. But to a night person, that sounds completely insane. Someone once asked me why I start my day in the middle of the night. Fair point—5 AM does seem like midnight if you’re just crawling into bed at 1 AM.
And don’t even get me started on TV shows. My husband can binge reality shows with cops, cars, or swords for hours. Me? Give me a Hallmark movie with predictable love stories and happy endings, and I’m content.
So, how are you different from the people (or pets!) around you? Do their quirks drive you a little loony—or have you learned to laugh and accept them? Either way, life sure would be boring if we all saw things exactly the same.
Different perspectives may clash sometimes, but they also make relationships colorful. After all, if ZZ didn’t think owls were murderers, I’d never get my early morning cardio in!
