WILD AND WONDERFUL WONDERINGS (Or: Why do I keep checking the fridge like it’s a vending machine?)

I don’t know about you, but I’m constantly wondering things.

Kids do it all the time—and we expect their wondering questions.
They ask things like:

  • Why is the sky blue?
  • Why do people die?
  • Why do I have to go to bed?
  • Why do I have to be nice?
  • Why can’t I have candy for breakfast?

I get it. I wondered those exact things myself!

Then came the teenage years. And the questions kept coming—just deeper, and a little more angsty:

  • Why do you have to look a certain way to be beautiful?
  • Why is it easier to love pets than people?
  • Why do people act like fat isn’t pretty?
  • Why do people say, “You’re blushing!” like it’s helpful?
  • Why is it okay to eat animals?

As an adult, my wonderings didn’t stop. They just got weirder.

  • Why do we press the remote harder when we know the battery’s dead?
  • Why do we stare into the fridge 10 times in 5 minutes, like a snack fairy might appear?
  • Why do squirrels only cross the road when a car is coming?
  • Why do we think of the perfect comeback ten minutes after the conversation’s over?
  • And why, oh why, do regrets love to show up at 2:00 a.m.?

Now that I’m officially a “senior,” my wonderings have… well, evolved.

  • Why do spouses stop at the sink but not go all the way to the dishwasher?
  • Why do I remember the name of my 3rd grade friend but not the person I met five minutes ago?
  • Why do I feel the urge to share my entire health history with the grocery store cashier?
  • Why do teens think they’re invincible?
  • And why does my cat lovingly purr one minute and try to stab me the next?

Yes, these are the big questions that keep me up at night.

So what about you? What wild and wonderful wonderings do you have?
Hit “reply” and let me know. I’d love to hear them.
Because if I’m going to be wide awake at 2:00 a.m. anyway, I might as well have some new things to think about.
