48 Hours Without a Computer – What I Discovered

This weekend, my computer screen broke. Instead of shelling out money for a new screen, it made more sense to invest in a whole new computer—my old one was, well, showing its age! Plus, with Cyber Monday around the corner, it seemed like perfect timing.

But let me tell you, being computer-less was an eye-opening experience.

I had technology withdrawal. I couldn’t believe how much I relied on my computer—for emails, news, work, entertainment…everything! My phone just wasn’t cutting it. I missed the satisfying ritual of flipping open my laptop whenever a question popped into my head. I missed staring at the screen while tackling projects. I even missed carrying my computer around the house as if it were an extension of me.

But something unexpected happened during my withdrawal.

Since there was no rushing the arrival of my new computer, I had to let go of the fretting and embrace the downtime. And you know what? It turned out to be a blessing.

I took slower, more enjoyable walks with my dog instead of hustling him along so I could “get back to work.” I lingered in the kitchen, savoring the process of chopping vegetables and experimenting with new recipes, rather than hurrying through so I could return to my ever-growing to-do list.

In the evenings, I sat on the couch with my husband, and we actually talked. We watched a TV show together—me fully present for a change, without a glowing screen pulling my attention away.

Now that my shiny new computer has arrived, life is getting back to “normal.” But here’s the thing—I’m not sure I want my old normal back.

I really enjoyed my “old-fashioned” weekend, and it made me wonder if there’s a way to strike a balance between the convenience of technology and the peace of being more present in my life.

How do you manage your technology use? I’d love to hear your thoughts. Drop me a line and share—we’re all in this together!
